Computer history museum

Hi! Long time no see.. Today, I want to write about the “Computer History Museum”. I visited there in the end of June, when I visited a company in San Jose. In this museum, you can see lots of collection of historical computer machines and pictures. There are lots of young people(even children) enthusiastically watching them.

Babbage’s Engine which was the first automatic engines, but he failed at this time. After 153 years, it was faithfully remade to original design and now it works. Even people need to turn a handle and it looked very tough job.

As you know, this is the root of HP, famous picture of Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard who are the founder of HP. The start of the dream.

Once you go there, you will know that there have been lots of progress, improvement and failure for success. All the history are gift(sometimes it is not pleasant though..) from people. We are presented lots of gift of possibilities. As well as the technology’s development, our life must be better, and it is the mission that we are asked.

CA world 2010 <2> episode

The CA world 2010 is very big event and there were lots of events. They really focused on “What the cloud is” to the audience, and also was like a festival to make people fun.

This is JamesCameron. He talked about how to make “Avator” and talked about the very details of technical filming for more than 1 hour…

I didn’t know that he started to film with working as a blue-collar. He said one thing to keep him filming was “Curiosity”.

This is the Maroon5.

I have never heard about this group before, but they are very famous in the world. The vocalist is so cool :-)

The problem happened after the great concert. I came back to my hotel about 10pm. A couple was in the room opposite, and they started a big fight from 11:00pm. I watched what happen to them from the eyhole of my room’s door. Then a woman(in the fight) went out from the room and shouted in loud voice and threw something. I was so surprised when broken pieces of something came to my room from under the door.. Because the fight was so noisy and kept on more than 1 hour, two guards came and stopped them fighting. It was such a big fighting and took many people’s calm night…(Actually they started a fight again and finally stopped about 2am)

well..no meaning about this picture ;-)

CA world 2010 in LasVegas <1>

CA world 2010 was held at LasVegas and they announced the new service named “Cloud Connected Management Suite”.  It consists of 4 parts “Insight”, “Compose”, “Optimize” and “Orchestrate”.

“Insight” provides the service to make the service barometer of application and help people figure out what application is best for them.  For example there are lots of applications for CMS. How do you know which one is the best for your solution? Some people will focus on security, some will care about cost, some in agility.  ”Insight” will make each service numeric barometer, like security is 86/100, cost is 76/100 etc.  You can see each application’s score and choose the best one. If you want application which is good at risk management, you might choose the application that has the highest score of risk management.  The items are separated to 6 category; Quality, Agility, Risk, Cost, Capability and Security.

This is the prototype of “Insight”.
insight

You know “Compose”, because it is very AppLogic. However the design becomes beautiful with gradation.
compose

“Optimize” will make it possible to deploy applications dynamically and “Orchestrate” will provide the best practice of contents like using the system automation etc. It is still unclear to understand. However these service will help you to drag and drop application to your favorite datacenter in the world and let your workload down for maintain systems.
datacenter

Basically these service are accuired companies’ service. “Insight” is from Oblicore, “Compose” is from 3Tera, “Optimize” and “Orchestrate” are from Cassatt and Nimsoft. You can also use these service all together but each of them.

The “Insight” and “Compose” will be released this October. “Compose” will be used with VMWare also. I am looking forward how “Compose” will be like. Oh and You can still use the original AppLogic though it will not support VMWare. If you want to change to “Compose”, you are going to be provided migration tool in the future.

Cloud Computing Expo@NY

I’ve been to the Cloud Computing Expo @NY.
ny city

The expo was held from 19th to 21st at Javits center.

At the same time, there were volcano eruptions in Iceland, and ash cloud prevented people from participating the expo from Europe, though about 11,000 people joined it.

There were more companies that exhibited their cloud services than last year.  For me, most of cloud services seemed similar.  They struggled to get attention from people, companies.  However the most successful company which got attention from people was abiquo.
abiquo

They clearly denied the vendor lock-in.  Yes, some big vendors try to lock in customer.  Customers need to buy the company’s appliances to use their cloud service.
abiquo2
Their speech was really clear and put strong impression on people. (I don’t know if the denial is also their strategy to be focused..)

I also introduced Libra service to some people, but their response was nothing special.
“Oh, you also have cloud service. Good!!”
Having a cloud service is not special anymore. If we aim for expanding the Libra service in the world, these are very important things to survive this severe cloud competition, I thought.

* Be open
* Be original
* Set a goal

How can we become original? It is hard to think, because it must be something new. Something people don’t make yet. Something people need. Something people are attracted. If you have some brand-new ideas, let me know!! :)

By the way, there was 1 stop at Salt Lake city for my flight back to California. This is the picture before landing the airport of Salt Lake city.
salt lake city

See? The airplane is almost landing, but there is no runway. You can see only big lake…
“Is this airplane really land on the runway? Or on the lake?!?!”
As a result, the plane land on the land. but this moment was the most fearful experience for me. :p

My reflection…

Cloud competition is getting keen these days.  On reflection, it seems that I needed more “Preparation” in Libra project.  There were many kinds demands from people (especially from U.S), and even I couldn’t respond quickly or prepare well, they would say like “ok!” and don’t blame on it.  However, obviously that means I missed the precious opportunity.  The word ”ok!” means “ok! (but you missed this opportunity this time!)” .

There must be a lot of things that should be prepared well enough in time.  Prepare well for the future, and you don’t know when future comes!  This is the precious lesson that I learned these days!!

Hello from OC!

It is unbelievable that it has passed just 1 week since I arrived at California.
I feel almost 1 month have passed. Maybe it means there are so much experiences
and something new for me.

Today is the 3rd day of my work here. The morning is really fast, and most people
start working from 8:00.  I also start working from 8:30 and go home at 6:30.
Thanks to the advice from Suzuki-san, I am doing my work in my own way.

We have large and blue sky every day like this!!
calsky

And this is my car named “Chevy”.  But it already have a problem with a blinker.
(One of them is burned out!) So my plan this weekend is going to the rental car
shop @Costa Mesa to fix “Chevy”.

Anyway, don’t worry!! Thanks to kind and cheerful people here in California,
I am working and surviving with lots of fun ;)

Hope you have wonderful day too :)

Preparation for U.S

Recently I have been pretty busy with my jobs and chores since my trip to U.S was decided. The trip this time is for 6 month, and I need to do lots of things like taking visa, international car license, moving, contacting with people in U.S etc etc.. Because I don’t have a credit card history in U.S, it is hard to get credence from others and it will effect the important situations of daily life like rent an apartment, even contracting mobile phone.

By the way, my mother seriously told me to be careful in case of visiting a hospital and talking with a doctor in U.S. Do you know why? When we were in junior high school, almost students learning English would memorize the greeting as below.

Teacher: “How are you?”
Student: “I’m fine, thank you, and you?”
Teacher: “Fine too, thank you”

This is a kind of standard English greeting for Japanese people, so many people might reply “I am fine!” automatically if any people say “How are you?”. So when I talk with a doctor, and if he/she says like “How are you?”, and I may reply like “I’m fine, thank you.” .
hahaha, it is a problem, but not a serious one until the doctor will say “Then you don’t need to come to a hospital” :)

Tenbin_chan start to tweets.

Good Morning! Loot at this blue and clear sky.  I took this picture from the garden at our company.

Can you believe that we had lots of heavy rain and snow 2 days ago? Seems like the spring is coming. I am happy for the arrival of spring, but one of my co-worker started to be suffered from hey fever. It is not happy thing for all of them. Anyway, spring is the good season to start something new.

By the way, do you know that our Libra service have a little, cute character named “Tenbin_chan”? She started Twitter from 10th. If you have interests, please follow her and check her tweet. You can receive her cute message, or cloud computing information from her, or maybe you can ask any question to her.(I don’t know she can answer all of the question) Anyway, it is true that you will definitely enjoy her tweets :)

Japanese nationality

There is a famous joke I’ve ever heard.
When the Titanic was sunk, Captain had to convince men to let all women and children escape at first by boat.
There are many people, and here is the way how the captain convinced men.

To American people: “You are the hero, so let women and children escape at first”
To British people: “You are the gentleman, so let women and children escape at first”
To Germany people: “This is the rule, so let women and children escape at first”
To Japanese people: “Let women and children escape at first, because everyone is doing so.”

This is a kind of good metaphor, expressing the identity of nationality.

The reason why I wrote this is because of the one issue from the Olympic game.
There was an issue about a halfpipe player named “Kokubo”’s clothes. When he went off the airplane, there were so many cameramen, and he didn’t wear his suite formally, and the tie was loosely tied.
Some said it was a fashion, but some criticized him.

This issue reminded me about the joke above. This is my thought, but because he was a little bit different from the other people do, he was a kind of the target of media. This is really expressing the Japanese nationality I think.

By the way, last week, I wore my favorite jeans, but I had a meeting with some company’s CEO at that time. It was too casual for the meeting. There were 2 choices in my mind..
#1 Buy formal skirt to attend the meeting? This means to obey Japanese nationality for me.
#2 Attend the meeting with jeans and say “This is Kokubo-style, and I stand my belief like him”?

After all, I chose #1. I am a pure Japanese, but I like Kokubo’s way of living :)
